Description: This FDC was issued to commemorate the 2nd International Asian Hornbill Workshop held during 12th - 18th April 1996. The purposeof the workshop was to promote preservation of Asian tropical forests and the endangered hornbills. The cancellation seal has emblem of Rhinoceros Hornbill and it is cancelled at Bangkok, the capital of Thailand on 12-02-1996. The cover depicts the picture of Rhinoceros Hornbill.

Status: Near Threatened

Habitat: Brunei Darussalam, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore & Thailand.(lowland ever green forest)

Threats: Deforestation, logging and hunting for meat, its feathers and its casque, which can be carved into an ornament.

Diet: Fruit, insects, small reptiles, rodents and smaller birds.  
 
Life Span: 30 years

Breeding:  Monogamous

Facts:
The Rhinoceros Hornbill is the state bird of the Malaysian state of Sarawak.
For some Dayak people, it represents their war god, Singalang Burong.
