Description: This cover is released to commemorate the Wildlife Week Celebration 2010, Chandigarh. This event is celebrated every year during first week of October. The main aim of the Wildlife Week was to make the younger generation aware about the importance of wildlife. It was aimed to motivate them to know how they can help in protecting the animals and birds. The bird depicted Indian Grey Hornbill is the state bird of Chandigarh. There is no stamp released on this bird until today.







 The Indian Grey Hornbill is a common hornbill found in Chandigarh. It is mostly arboreal and is commonly sighted in pairs. they have grey feathers all over the body with a light grey or dull white belly. The horn is black or dark grey with a casque extending up to the point of curvature in the horn. They are one of the few hornbill species found within urban areas in many cities where they are able to make use of large avenue trees. It is declared as the state bird of Chandigarh during the year 2009.
